HEMI = Hemp Education & Marketing Initiatives

HEMI is a nonprofit helping U.S. industrial hemp firms access markets, sell products, reduce client acquisition costs, and build consumer trust through education and marketing initiatives under The Goodness of Hemp® identity.

For industrial hemp to be a widely embraced bio-based material and a favorite source of high-quality nutrition, grown and made in the United States, trusted by consumers for its health benefits, reliability, performance attributes, and environmental sustainability.

U.S. Industrial hemp is:

Goodness for every market

Blending hemp into everyday industrial materials and consumer products delivers clear benefits in environmental sustainability, product performance, and human/animal health. All American-grown and -made.

This uniquely versatile plant integrates seamlessly into multiple industry and manufacturing supply chains. Its natural bast and hurd fibers are ideal for polymer composites, insulation, absorbents, textiles, and nonwovens.

Plastics and composites: boosts biodegradability and lightweighting.
Textiles: increases durability and resistance.
Food: enhances protein content and digestibility.
Construction: lowers VOCs and better fire resistance.
Nonwovens: improves abrasiveness, absorbency, and biodegradability.
Animal care: provides protein-rich supplements & high-absorbency bedding.

Hemp is better business with a smaller footprint.

HEMP
TRUTHS

Industrial hemp IS NOT marijuana. Let's clear this up: industrial hemp fiber and grain are NOT marijuana. Period.

How is hemp different from marijuana?

This is the big one. While industrial hemp and marijuana are both varieties of the same plant (Cannabis sativa), hemp contains 0.3% or less THC, so it has no recreational nor medicinal uses like marijuana does.

Wait — isn't hemp illegal?

Actually, hemp is legal in the U.S. as long as it contains no more than 0.3% THC by dry weight. And industrial hemp — by definition — meets this criteria.

Is there a risk for my family or animals?

Industrial hemp is generally not a risk to people or animals, as it is non-intoxicating due to its extremely low levels of THC. In all seriousness, its benefits add up to it being a wonderful material for us and the planet!

We keep in good company.
